The Ugly Truth:

Bro – what did I just read? AGAIN, here is me trying to hunt down the next good bully romance only to keep throwing myself at these INSANE TikTok recommendations that literally leave me questioning if I am at all well in life.

I should have known from the start that this book was a little ~off~ when she jumped in the sack with a random boy from a plane in the first few chapters of the book. The reason I kept reading is because when they spoke, albeit which was not a lot, it was actually pretty good banter.

On top of that, I actually really liked Nell for the first 30% of the book. She had the background and dialogue to back her as kind of an elite warrior, but I felt her character was tainted as the book went all and was fully ANIHALTED in the last 20%. Her in the first training was utterly unstoppable and I found myself rooting for her, and her growing interest in Bones. I thought that her back story of a lost team, coupled with the idea of a lost love, made her seem like a realistic, and perhaps, in some ways, a relatable character. HOWEVER, when she gave in to Bones, then his brother, then YOU KNOW WHO AT THE END, I lost all hope for our girl. The fact that she just like gave up fighting and accepted fate was the exact opposite of who I was rooting for the whole time and it left me disappointed I stuck around to see her fail.

A quick side note on that, her just accepting rescue at the end and being like yeah you’re right, what is three years??? Let’s go now! Made actually zero sense for the plot.

Bones was his own beast to battle while reading this. I liked him, I thought he was messed up in the head and then I was just indifferent towards him. Again, he was written as a character with a backbone and nerves of steel only to be revealed as a pawn in some other dudes games? Make it make sense! And then to just so quickly forgive his twin after he lost the literal LOVE OF HIS LIFE – no, does not seem like something people called a MONSTER for years would simply just do?

Overall, did not make sense and I was rolling my eyes more than I care to admit.
