Leather and lark
By Brynne Weaver
I'm not sure I should be gaining confidence from a book about a serial killer, but like why not?
The Ugly Truth:
OKAY ROMANCEEEE (and serial killers, sorry “deleters,” BUT MOSTLY LOVE) – I see you!!! Brynne Weaver once again wrote a swoon worthy book about the wildest professionals around and I, for one, am not mad about it.
I knew from the last book that I was already going to love a Lachlan Kane tale, with his brooding attitude and larger than life body, and Leather & Lark delivered it perfectly. I was so happy to learn more about his involvement in the… darker… side of things and to see that his heart was actually one of the purest of the series. He was the ultimate “sacrifice for the ones you love” boy and I found myself scouring each chapter for another one of his good deeds.
Most importantly, I was obsessed with the care and love he showered Lark with. This girl was so clearly a crumbling island hidden by glamourous smiles and loving embraces, it was nice to see her be able to take a load off her shoulders and be a real person with someone other than Sloane for once (who she was not even being fully honest with anyways). I respected that the two mains had a common interest in protecting the ones they love and I became giddy when they realized they had to add each other to their lists.
As with her first book, this is definitely NOT for the faint of heart. I would recommend reviewing those trigger warnings before picking it up. Honestly, the only trigger warning I truly needed was one before the bonus chapter – that was the only thing in the book I found that was maybe ~not~ needed, but to each their own!!
